Contributions are expected to be grounded in empirical, critical, and interdisciplinary approaches, e.g., from sociology, anthropology, religious studies, political science, communication studies, law, and public policy.

Harmoni first appeared in 2002 in printed form (ISSN: 1412-663X) and was published four times a year. In 2013, still in print, Harmoni was published three times per year. Since implementing the Open Journal Systems (OJS) in 2017, with online ISSN 2502-8472, Harmoni has published two issues per year.
